How to Make Your Home Dog Friendly and Safe?

July 4, 2016 By Andrew Koh Leave a Comment

Is Your House Dog Friendly?

Planning to bring home a new puppy or dog? Then it’s important you spend some time to ensure your home is both dog friendly and safe for your dog. Dog Crate and Play Pen If your dog is not housebroken or chew-toy trained yet, he will have to be confined 100% of the time when unsupervised. For toilet training purposes, it is best to use a crate. However, as confining a dog for long hours in a crate is both cruel and inadvisable, it is just as important to have a play pen for him. These … [Read more...] about How to Make Your Home Dog Friendly and Safe?

Is Singapore Ready for Funeral Home Therapy Dogs?

February 22, 2016 By Andrew Koh Leave a Comment

Recently, I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing the passing of a dear friend. The funeral was well organised and meaningfully put together. However, I couldn't help notice that throughout the time I was there at the wake, his 2 children, aged 10 and 12, looked sad and depressed; indeed they were not their usual jovial self. This mood unfortunately rubbed of on my friend’s dear wife who in addition to having to cope with the loss her beloved hubby, had to be the source of strength to … [Read more...] about Is Singapore Ready for Funeral Home Therapy Dogs?

Comparing and Choose Dog Food in Singapore

February 16, 2016 By Andrew Koh Leave a Comment

Dog having a satisfying meal

There are many brands of dog food in Singapore; Orijen, Acana, Wellness and Addiction, just to name a few. Hence we have often been asked if all brands of dog food are basically the same or if a dog owner should pay a little more, just so that he can feed his dog something a little better. While we are not experts in dog nutrition, we have ourselves done enough research so as to ensure we feed our own dogs the best. Rather then keep this findings to ourselves, we thought we share it here … [Read more...] about Comparing and Choose Dog Food in Singapore

Picture of a Bed Bug close up

Bed bugs recently made the news when an infestation in Rex cinema was reported by the straits times newspapers. This has led to a string of queries from our students asking if dogs can get bed bugs and if they can carry the infestation to their homes? As bed bugs is beyond our level of expertise, we got the experts at pestcontrolsingapore.net who took care of our previous tick infestation to share their views. Below is what that they taught us. Can Bed Bugs Bite Your Dog? The short … [Read more...] about Can Dogs Get Bed Bugs?

Ticks in Dogs – Why Prevention is so Important

March 23, 2015 By Andrew Koh 2 Comments

Tick in Dogs

I cannot emphasize often enough the importance of Frontlining your dog. No, I am not paid by Merial Limited (the makers of Frontline Plus) for writing this post; it’s just that Frontline Plus is the easiest and most effective way I know of for keeping my dogs tick free. All it takes is one spot application and my dogs are protected from fleas and ticks for up to a month. But is Tick Prevention Treatment Important? Most definitely yes. Ticks can be found year round in any place where other … [Read more...] about Ticks in Dogs – Why Prevention is so Important

If Not For Your Trainer, My Schnauzer Would Have Been Put to Sleep…

Irene Chua I would like to thank your trainer for all he has done. I was feeling helpless when I brought an abandoned Schnauzer (Fan Fan) back home because my JRT (Gal Gal) could not get along with her. They will react aggressively at the sight of each other. Because of your trainer’s coaching and help, my rehomed Schnauzer and JRT are now like best of buddies (see picture above). Your trainer has given me his time and energy by entertaining my sms and giving me guidance beyond the official lessons I paid for. Indeed he is a dog lover and not just a trainer. Despite a lot of trainers simply asking me to rehome her, your trainer gave me hope. If not for him, my Schnauzer would probably have been put to sleep at AVA. He is such a wonderful coach, one who trains out of love and that makes him totally different from other dog trainers.

The Training was a Rewarding Learning Experience…

Jon and Bigi with Cookie Thank you again for teaching us how to train our dog, and for coaching us in her initial training. Cookie is now a well balanced dog and we can enjoy her naturally nice temperament now that she is so much better trained. We totally underestimated what it meant to have a dog and didn’t realise that there is so much knowledge that already exists on how to train a dog. Thanks for unlocking this world for us. The training has made having a dog the fun we imagined it would be, as well as being a rewarding learning experience for us both. We really look forward to our Monday evening training sessions! You helped us big time, thanks again.
Jon & Bigi with Cookie

Calm, Patient and a Great Teacher…

Benjamin Ang and Bailey Your trainer has been a great encouragement during the training sessions. There were a lot of times that were annoying when my dog didn’t listen but he was calm and patient enough to guide me through! Overall, he has been a great teacher!

A Trainer Who Would Give Extra Remedial Lessons…

Elaine Lee with Cocoa Basic dog training class, which we attended, was both useful and enjoyable as we learnt lots on how to tackle some of the dog behavioural problems. What impressed us was that the trainer had also taken extra effort to give “remedial” class to train Cocoa when we had problems handling her. The end result? An obedient and well-trained dog we are proud to bring out!

Class Was So Fun and Enjoyable…

Mary Swee with Chanel Chanel is our 8 month-old hyperactive silky terrier. She used to bite off paint from walls; chewing fabric off sofas and dining chair; tearing newspaper and tissues in pieces all over the floor. Hence prior to the training lessons, it was indeed a traumatic experience to manage our dog. We signed on the basic package which enrolled Chanel for the 10 weeks course. Overall am very impressed with your trainer’s 100% dog friendly techniques and positive methods in engaging both owners and their dogs in the lessons. Chanel learnt the basic behaviour well throughout the course duration. Indeed am very happy with the result that she is more well behaved and easier to manage than before. Your trainer has been very patient with the class and helped us to train our dogs into an obedient and well-behaved one. We would like to thank him for his regular advice and follow ups to ensure we do revised the training methods. And not forgetting that he has also made class fun and enjoyable for Chanel.

I Learnt Useful Tips to Handle Dog Aggression Issues…

Amanda Tan with Piggy I would like to thank your trainer for teaching me how to handle my Dachshund Piggy. Pig has aggression issues and your trainer did a short session with us both and he gave me useful tips to tackle Pig’s aggression and stubbornness. Not to mention he was extremely patient with us and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all that he has done. Highly recommended.
Amanda Tan and Piggy

An Incredibly Patient Dog Trainer…

Joanna Han with Bailey Being a “first-time” pet owner, it was challenging and at times overwhelming for me when I did not know how to manage Bailey’s temperament and behaviour. Therefore, I decided to seek you trainer’s guidance, to help me understand and bond with my new furry companion. He was incredibly patient with Bailey and myself during training classes. His constant encouragement and dedicated attitude makes every lesson enjoyable for us. In addition, he is very flexible and devises training methods according to the personality or temperament of both puppy and handler. Though bespoke, all his methods are centred on the concept of reward-based training techniques, and this has made the whole learning experience a positive and rewarding one for Bailey and I. Thank you.
Joanna Han and Bailey

An Awesome Dog Trainer…

Lim Sherchan with Cookie Really dedicated trainer who puts in 101% of effort in training your dogs. I had a great time training my dog under him, he’s very approachable and gives awesome tips on dog training. My dog is so much more obedient after undergoing the training. In a nutshell, An Awesome Dog Trainer!
Lim Sherhan and Cookie

Happy (Our Dog) Passed the Basic Obedience with Flying Colours…

Ivory Chong with Happy Your trainer is a very responsible and knowledgeable. He would always call and check if we have any questions about the exercise. Very approachable, always a call away. Happy passed the basic obedience with flying colours!

The Best Benefit of Training is a Happier Dog…

Christophe Linot and Prune When we had to go through our dog training for AVA, I shall say that I was not convinced it will bring much as Prune was already doing quite well. Your trainer through his dedication and excellent knowledge of dogs has proven me wrong! He has demonstrated very good understanding of Prune qualities and behaviour as well as the relation with its owner. Based on this, we(my daughter, my son, my wife, and myself) have been able to better understand Prune, to further improve the relationship with her. We have also bring her to a better control and management. The best benefit out of the training is a happier dog!
