Come Boogie with Your Dog under the Guidance of our Dog Dancing Instructor
Dog Dancing, also known as Musical Canine Freestyle, Musical Freestyle, Freestyle Dance and Canine Freestyle, has a relatively brief history when compared to many other dog sport. In Singapore, it is relatively unheard of until Ashleigh and Pudsey took the world by storm, with their historic win at the 2012 Britain’s Got Talent Finals (see video below).
Today, a few dog schools in Singapore, including our trainers’ school, offer this sport in their curriculum and it is our believe that with time, dog dancing will proof to be very popular.
How did Musical Canine Freestyle Evolved?
Canine freestyle is basically obedience, music and dance all combined together. Until the late eighties, the only Obedience Trials the world know off are the plain vanilla ones. At around 1989 to 1991, demonstrations of heelwork to music began surfacing in some countries in the west motivated primary by the need to make obedience more fun, exciting and creative as well as people’s natural love for music. As these demonstrations gained momentum, the first Canine Musical Freestyle group was formed in Canada and thereafter, there was no turning back as other countries began forming their own groups and creating their own styles.
How Dog Dancing is Categorize
In the world today, there are 2 main types of Musical Canine Freestyle, namely Freestyle Heeling, which focuses on heelwork as part of the musical routine and Musical Freestyle, which allows more free play like weaving dog tricks into the routine as well as sending the dog away and synchronizing remotely with the dog.
