Title Winning Dog Trainers at your Service
Looking for a good dog trainer? Then you are at the right place. Here, you will find some of the best positive rewards based dog trainers in Singapore, specially selected by Andrew Koh based on their credentials and track record.
Being a top obedience competitor, Andrew naturally knows many dog trainers and more importantly, who the good ones are. He is thus able to put together a panel of trainers that ranks among the best in Singapore. In selecting these trainers, his requirements are simple:
- They must be positive rewards based dog trainers. (Compulsion based dog training is in our view unnecessary harsh and at times cruel.)
- They must have won at least the Singapore Kennel Club Reserve Obedience Dog of the Year Title or have students who have won this title. (This differentiates us from many other websites where trainers have not won any major obedience titles.)
- They must have glowing testimonials from their existing students. (We believe strongly in providing unparalleled customer satisfaction.)
Why Engage Our Services?
Dog training is today a divided profession. On one end of the spectrum are the positive rewards based dog trainers who use only gentle, dog friendly methods to train dogs. Unfortunately, their numbers are small and the odds of finding them are thus heavily stacked against you. Why? Because the majority of Singapore dog trainers are still using harsh compulsion based methods aim at teaching dogs that they have no choice but to comply.
Hence, unless you are in the know, your odds of finding a good positive rewards based dog trainer are at best slim.
And that is why Dog Training Singapore exist; to promote rewards based dog training as a gentle and humane alternative to traditional dog training and provide you with the best dog training education you can get in Singapore, conducted exclusively by title winning positive rewards based dog trainers.
About Andrew Koh?
Andrew Koh is a qualified Singapore Kennel Club Obedience Judge and the owner and trainer of the 2009 Singapore Kennel Club (SKC) Reserve Obedience Dog of the Year, Rufus CDX. The 8 weeks Dog Obedience Webinar course, focusing on clicker training, is personally conducted by him.
Andrew’s interest in dog training started more than 15 years ago when he adopted a Bichon Cross bitch, Lady. Then, he had promised his wife that he will care for and train the dog so that Lady will not become a nuisance, both to the family and neighbours alike.
He began reading books, articles and experimenting with various ways of dog training. Before long, Lady became so well trained that training her soon became a joy. She could heel, fetch, walk on her hind legs, play dead and do it all on command, even in the face of great distraction.
Lady never became a competition dog because about that time, Andrew had just gotten his first full time job and simply had no time realigning her training to the SKC rules. Till this day, he remains convinced that she would have done very well in the obedience ring, had she been given the chance.
2 years after he had gotten Lady, his 1st child Amanda arrived. Being a new parent, his wife was afraid then that the dander from Lady may make their daughter more prone to catching asthma. Andrew then took the painful decision of approaching his in-laws to look after Lady, at least until Amanda grows up. As it turns out, his in-laws became so attached to Lady that he never had the heart to claim her back. In 2008, Lady passed away, never having the chance to proof herself in the obedience ring nor reach her fullest potential.
Meanwhile, the years without a dog was simply too much for Andrew to handle. About 9 years ago, he finally managed to convince his wife to get another puppy again. They got Rufus, who is today, one of the Top Obedience Dogs in Singapore.
About Rufus CDX
Andrew got Rufus about 9 years ago, at the tender age of 2 months. Like most Miniature Schnauzers, he was very active and playful and a joy to own.
Andrew began training Rufus at 3 months, to get him ready for competitive obedience. He is an intelligent dog and training progressed smoothly. Today, he ranks among Singapore’s best.
